{"id":241,"date":"2024-12-22T12:55:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-22T04:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.str8jaktjim.com\/?p=241"},"modified":"2024-12-22T14:46:24","modified_gmt":"2024-12-22T06:46:24","slug":"nintendo-direct-35th-mario-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.str8jaktjim.com\/?p=241","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo Direct 35th Mario Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Originally published on GameOnAus.com in Sept 2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct - 03.09.2020\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pmEhxzbPjCI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Nintendo surprised the world last night with its first full Nintendo Direct for almost a year and it was a big one: Super Mario Bros. 35<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary Nintendo Direct!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was what fans had been waiting for: how was Nintendo going to celebrate the 35<sup>th<\/sup> birthday of one of the most recognisable pop culture symbols in the world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For me they did not disappoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Game &amp; Watch: Super Mario Bros. - coming November 13th!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DrCI0Z-_o5E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>They started out with an updated Game &amp; Watch with Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (known as The Lost Levels in the west) and an updated version of Game &amp; Watch Balls, releasing on the 13<sup>th<\/sup> November 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Mario 3D World + Bowser&#039;s Fury comes to Nintendo Switch on February 12th, 2021!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1LoC9hK_zLo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A port of Super Mario 3D World with an addition mode called Bowser\u2019s Fury was then shown. Not much was mentioned about Bowser\u2019s Fury other than a quick look at a new overworld. Online and local co-operative play will be available in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser\u2019s Fury, giving gamers a way to play with their friends. Super Mario 3D World was a solid Mario outing, but not particularly impressive in the way some other 3D Mario games have been and this feels more to me like Nintendo rehashing a Wii U title that not many people would have played, tacking something new on and re-releasing it on the Switch, like they did with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Mario Kart 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we were getting into the good stuff though. I was very excited to see the announcement of Super Mario Bros. 35, an online multiplayer Mario game in the same vein as Tetris 99. 35 players compete to be the last Mario standing as they play through Super Mario Bros. levels with a twist: defeated enemies are sent to another player\u2019s screen, making their run more difficult. Super Mario Bros 35. will be available to Nintendo Switch Online members on 1<sup>st<\/sup> October 2020 and playable up until the 31<sup>st<\/sup> March 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit \u2013 Coming October 16th! (Nintendo Switch)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5W_MNv65UMc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But it wouldn\u2019t be Nintendo if they didn\u2019t throw us a curve ball. In this Nintendo Direct it came in the form of Mario Kart Live Home Circuit. This is essentially linking real life Mario Karts to your Switch and driving round a course of your own making in your very own home! To say I\u2019m excited about this would be understating it. Nintendo have always liked out of the box thinking and this is a great concept. Can\u2019t wait to try it out myself! Mario Kart Live Home Circuit is available 16<sup>th<\/sup> October 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Mario 3D All-Stars is coming September 18th! (Nintendo Switch)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tXcHqmPI_3k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The main event though was the long-rumoured collection of remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy titled Super Mario 3D All Stars. Part of me is a little disappointed that they didn\u2019t go that little bit extra and include Super Mario Galaxy 2, but it\u2019s still an incredible selection of games. I\u2019m excited to be able to play the under-rated Super Mario Sunshine again as I think it doesn\u2019t get the love it deserves being sandwiched between impressive titles like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario 3D All Stars releases on the 18<sup>th<\/sup> September and will only be available until the end of March 2021, so make sure you get your copy before then!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not all Nintendo are doing to celebrate the 35<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Mario through to March 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mario Kart Tour will be having a Super Mario Kart Tour event, with skins from Super Mario Kart available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>35<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary Ninji Speed Run level will be available in Super Mario Maker 2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have an in game online tournament featuring Super Mario characters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Splatoon 2 will be running a Super Mario themed Splatfest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Super Mario items will be available in Animal Crossing New Horizons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Super Mario All Stars, a collection of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels will be coming to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Switch Online Collection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited edition merchandise will be available for purchase<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s lots to be excited about from this Nintendo Direct. It\u2019s been a bit of a light year for Nintendo. With the exception of Animal Crossing New Horizons they haven\u2019t been able to scratch the itch of fans who want that classic Nintendo feel, but given the restrictions of 2020 this isn\u2019t something to be surprised about.
