Are you excited? Because I’m excited! Now that I’ve finished channelling my inner Big Kev, let’s catch up with what’s happened in the off season. There’s be a few changes to the league and teams to make ANZPL Split 1 2023 the most exciting season yet!
The Teams
Reigning champs North Sydney Sentinels are back to defend their title. In the off season they have traded long time player Rowendy to the Adelaide Action X and received Speed in return. They’ve also picked up Saffe to round out their roster.
Their crosstown rivals, the South Sydney Skorpions, are looking to break their title drought. Remaining ever consistent, they have made no changes to their roster from last season.
The Wollongong Wolverines join ANZPL Split 1 2023. Lead by Sir_Robin and Toddy339, the Wolverines have brought in veteran players Saxon and AVP to bolster the ranks. The rest of their roster slots have been filled with Mud_Garde, Soltarian and Flaming from the ANZBL.
The Melbourne Matildas have continued the ANZBL recruitment with Magic Shells, Bad Boi Bubbles and Spencer2018 making the transition to the ANZPL. They join Whippet, Joeattora, Bolagnaise and RavioliAldente. With this roster the Pasta Posse is sure to make an impact.
My own Perth Panthers have only made one change for ANZPL Split 1 2023. Kritakil joins JS, Twit, Bailes, Dastardly, Godmode_Dead and Madhouse to bolster a dangerous lineup.
With Rowendy joining the Adeliade Action X through a trade, they still had two more slots to fill. Lightningman and Ravvi return to the ANZPL after some time off. They will be joining CJ, Dongerlord, Trax, and Gloster.
ANZPL Split 1 2023 Format
There’s been a couple of changes to the format for the ANZPL Split 1 2023 season.
The biggest update is that the league has returned to a single round robin before playoffs. This means there is no room for mistakes with teams needing every win they can get!
The playoff format has also been altered. Rather than the top four playoff format seen last season, ANZPL Split 1 2023 will see five teams face off for the coveted trophy!
All roads lead to a LAN Grand Final, this year at Fortress Sydney on May 27th. This newly opened venue is the perfect stage to decide our Split 1 champions!
ANZBL
The ANZBL also returns! The promotion of the Wolverines paves the way for the return of the Brisbane Bulldogs to competitive play. They join the Hawthorn Hellcats, Canberra Centurions, Auckland Archers, Lismore Leopards and Bundaberg Badgers.
Fantasy League
A staple of both the ANZPL and ANZBL, Fantasy League also returns. Participants in the ANZPL Fantasy League have a chance to win great prizes, including in game gold and HyperX microphones. The top Fantasy Leaguer every week wins 500 in game gold.
Where To Watch
Good news everyone! ANZPL Split 1 2023 returns this Friday 31st March at 7pm AEDT, closely followed by the ANZBL starting on Monday 3rd April at 7pm AEST (watch that change of daylight savings!)
